BACOLOD CITY – Four people were gunned down in separate incidents in this city and Negros Occidental from Feb. 13 to 15.
The most recent case was the killing of a 29-year-old man, identified only as Rolando, who was found dead inside his makeshift house in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City, on Saturday.
His father discovered his lifeless body when he went to wake him up for work.
Police Capt. Greeky Cayao, head of Police Station 8, said they are looking into the victim’s personal affairs as a possible motive.
Cayao noted that Rolando had conflicts with a friend in December, had been accused of stealing fruits in the neighborhood, and was previously reported for violence against women and children, which led to the rescue of his children from his custody.
Investigators recovered a slug and an empty shell from an unidentified firearm at the scene.
Farm Overseer Killed in Silay City
In Silay City, a 63-year-old farm overseer, identified only as Ricardo, was shot dead on Feb. 14 at Hacienda San Isidro, Barangay Bagtic.
Police Lt. Col. Mark Anthony Darroca, head of Silay Police, said Ricardo was on his way to the hacienda when two unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants shot him in the head and stomach.
He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police recovered seven fired cartridge cases and a spent slug from a .45 caliber firearm.
Darroca said investigators are focusing on the possibility that the attack was work-related.
“If our investigation is on the right track, we may have a person of interest,” he added.
The victim’s wife said he had no known threats against him before the attack.
Tricycle Driver Shot in La Carlota City
A 32-year-old tricycle driver was killed in Barangay II Poblacion, La Carlota City, on Thursday.
He was driving his tricycle with his wife and minor child when an unidentified gunman attacked him.
He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was later declared dead at a hospital.
Man Shot in Front of Mom
In Himamaylan City, a 28-year-old man was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in Barangay Mahalang on Thursday.
Police said the victim was sitting on a bench with his mother when a gunman approached, pulled out a firearm, and shot him three times in the back.
The suspect then fled the scene with an unidentified companion.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
