It was Deontay Wilder’s first loss of his professional career. And worse, losing the WBC heavyweight belt to Tyson Fury.
The WBC heavyweight champion got wrecked and was out-punched from the first to the seventh round by number one contender Fury that left the thousands of people at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in complete shock.
By the moment the third round started, Fury started to break loose and connected most of his 1-2 combinations that looked to be unstoppable as Wilder just couldn’t defend with Fury working the all the angles.
Fury then landed a right hand midway through the third round to Wilder’s body that dropped the defending WBC heavyweight champion for only the second time in his professional career.
Fury then didn’t continued to press the action as he hounded Wilder relentlessly with punishing blows to the face, causing his left ear to bleed.
During the fifth round, Fury knocked Wilder down again with another body shot and continued to move forward after seeing Wilder run out of gas.
Wilder looked different in the sixth and seventh rounds, moving slower with his legs visibly shaking every time he tried to pedal backward to avoid Fury’s flurry.
In the seventh round, Wilder’s corner was forced to throw in the towel after Fury forced the champion into a corner and was starting to pummel him with heavy punches.
“I hit him with a clean right that dropped him and he got back up. He is a warrior. He will be back. He will be champion again,” said Fury.
