SUBIC – The stage is set for the country’s premier youth endurance race as more than 150 young triathletes compete in the RLC Residences IRONKIDS today, Saturday, June 14, at Subic Bay Boardwalk.
This year’s event builds on the momentum of earlier legs, featuring a competitive field of Filipino and international athletes.
From first-timers to rising stars, participants are eager to test their limits across age-group divisions designed to match their skill and endurance levels.
Tensions are high in the boys and girls 13-15 division, where contenders will tackle a 250-meter swim, 6-kilometer bike ride and 2-kilometer run starting at 5:45 a.m.
Reflecting the event’s global appeal, participants also include athletes from France, the United Kingdom, India, Japan, Ireland and South Africa.
Other categories include the 11–12 division (200m swim, 4km bike, 1.5km run), 9–10 (150m swim, 4km bike, 1.5km run), and 6–8 (100m swim, 2km bike, 1km run).
Relay events for mixed teams in the 6–10 and 11–15 brackets, along with run-only races, ensure inclusive opportunities for young athletes to join the action.
IRONKIDS serves as a prelude to the Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay, which takes place tomorrow, Sunday.
For many, today’s race marks the beginning of a lifelong journey in endurance sports.
The event is presented by RLC Residences, the residential arm of Robinsons Land Corp.
Now in the first year of its three-year partnership with IRONKIDS Philippines, RLC Residences supports youth development, active lifestyles and family bonding through its advocacy, Raising Little Champions.
“Just as IRONKIDS champions a supportive community and a strong sense of belonging for aspiring young athletes, we are equally committed to creating thoughtful, safe spaces that nurture families and strengthen communities,” said Karen Cesario, senior director, marketing head and chief integration officer of RLC Residences.
Earlier this year, RLC Residences also supported the IRONKIDS leg in Puerto Princesa, reinforcing its commitment to grassroots sports development nationwide.
