A fruitful outcome welcomed Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-6 Regional Director Cyril L. Ticao during his visit to the Garment Production Project for Marginalized Women of Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
Ticao noticed positive changes in the livelihood project.
“Before, they only produce pot holders and doormats. Now they are into uniforms and shirt production. This is a sign of development,” he said.
Amelita Peñafiel, who is a beneficiary, confirmed Ticao’s observation.
“Ang proyekto nakabulig gid, parehas kahapon kag subong, nakabaton kami sang bayad halin sa nagapa-repair (The project helped a lot. For instance, we have income doing repair works for walk-in customers for the past two days),” Peñafiel said.
She added that bulk orders and productions are also coming in.
“Through these sewing machines, the beneficiaries earn for every piece of work or a percentage of the income of the association for every project,” explained Labor and Employment Officer Anthony Felmo Silveo.
Silveo also suggested that a maintenance slip should be used to keep track of the condition of the equipment.
DOLE-6 provided a zigzagger machine, two electrical and four manual sewing machines to 20 beneficiaries.
DOLE’s capital outlay for the project amounted to Php250.000.
Ticao was also delighted with their plans. The beneficiaries shared that with additional capitalization, they are looking into curtains, pillow cases, shorts and pajamas as additional merchandise.
Seeing their determination, DOLE-Guimaras Field Office OIC-Head Richie Buyco advised the beneficiaries to develop their marketing strategies and establish networks of prospective clients.
