Generika Ayala pulled off the much-needed stops to prevent an upset against the Marinerang Pilipina, 25-16, 18-25, 25-23, 28-30, 16-14, in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.
The powerhouse Generika Ayala squad contained Marinerang Pilipina’s fiery scoring outburst and executed their defensive plays to seal the victory and avoid a heartbreaking loss.
Elizabeth Vicet Campos led Generika with an insane 32-point performance off 28 kills, including timely points that avoided a wide-margin scoring run from the opposing side.
Generika almost blew a 13-9 lead in the final set after committing three straight errors and a service ace from the opposing team that led to them suddenly trailing, 13-14.
However, Campos’ stellar play fueled Generika as she fired three straight clutch attacks to deliver the win and end their two-game losing streak.
Ria Meneses and Patty Orendain carried the load offensively for the locals, contributing 13 and 11 points, respectively.
