BACOLOD City – Police are probing the case of the alleged rape slay of an eight-year-old girl in Ilog, Negros Occidental.
Police Major John Ganzon, town police chief, said that the decomposing body of the victim, whose name was withheld, was found in a sugarcane plantation at Barangay Andulauan around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Ganzon said the victim’s parents reported her missing to Kabankalan City Police Station on March 7 when she failed to go home after she was asked to do an errand while her parents were looking after their merchandise at the market.
Ganzon said the victim was positively identified by her parents yesterday. She’s been missing for almost three weeks, he added.
The child was half-naked when found, indicating possible sexual molestation.
Ganzon said they are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine her injuries.
He said that they already have persons of interest but refused to elaborate while investigation is ongoing.
“We don’t know yet if one or more persons were behind the killing of the child,” he added.
They are also are coordinating with the Kabankalan City Police Station for possible lead on the perpetrator.
As to how the child reached the town, “We can’t tell yet if she was killed there or if she was just left there,” Ganzon said.
