The event will focus on advancing sustainable urban development and strengthening global partnerships through collaborative discussions.
Youngmin Chang, programs director of the CityNet Secretariat, emphasized Iloilo’s growing significance as a hub for international exchange, especially given its expanding Korean community.
“Iloilo City has become a welcoming home to a growing Korean community, including families, students, and business professionals who have embraced the warmth and hospitality of the city. Through CityNet, we hope to foster even greater exchanges between Iloilo and Seoul, paving the way for collaborative projects, shared knowledge, and innovative solutions that benefit both cities,” Chang said during a press conference on Nov. 14.
Key representatives, including mayors from the Philippine cities of Makati, Roxas, Muntinlupa, and Tacurong, along with six mayors from Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Fiji, will attend the meeting.
The vice mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the director-general of CityNet Yokohama, Japan, will also participate.
Chang stressed the importance of the gathering, saying that the CityNet Secretariat is eager to deepen cooperation among its members, focusing on sustainable urban development and mutual understanding.
The event will feature a session led by Habitat for Humanity, which will address sustainable housing and community resilience.
The Global Parliament of Mayors will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen international ties and collaborations among CityNet members.
Paulie Mora, programs deputy director of the CityNet Secretariat, revealed that Iloilo City was selected as host for this prestigious international meeting due to its strong commitment to supporting global initiatives.
“Iloilo’s vibrant culinary scene and its recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy make it a perfect location for this event,” Mora added.
Velma Jane Lao, head of the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIP) and chairperson of the local organizing committee, also expressed enthusiasm for the event.
“This is a significant opportunity for Iloilo City to showcase its best practices as a CityNet member city to the world,” Lao said, adding that the meeting is expected to benefit the local tourism sector and economy.
The influx of international delegates and guests will boost local businesses and promote Iloilo as a prime destination for future international events.
Lao emphasized that the city is fully prepared to welcome participants and ensure the success of the event.
