Ernest Cu, president and CEO of Globe Telecom, has been elected to the GSMA Board, marking a significant milestone for Philippine representation in the global mobile telecommunications sector.
The GSMA, a leading organization representing mobile network operators worldwide, includes 26 senior leaders from top telecom companies and independent operators. Its board members collaborate to advance technology, interoperability, and international standards while driving societal and economic development through enhanced connectivity.
Cu will serve on the board from January 2025 to December 2026, contributing to GSMA’s strategic initiatives to promote digital inclusion, particularly in developing markets.
“Building a collaborative environment that supports mobile technology and sustainability is essential for creating long-term, positive impact,” Cu said. “By promoting digital adoption, we aim to improve lives and stimulate economic growth, particularly in areas lacking connectivity, where access to digital tools can pave the way for new opportunities and empower communities.”
Globe has positioned itself as a key player in bridging the digital divide in the Philippines, focusing on inclusive growth and ensuring that all Filipinos benefit from digital transformation.
The telecom giant provides a comprehensive suite of services, including mobile, broadband, and data connectivity, alongside digital solutions in fintech, healthtech, and climate tech. Globe is also a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
