Globe CEO Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Ernest Cu, Globe President and CEO, was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Twimbit Awards held in Singapore.

Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Twimbit Telecom Awards, recognizing his transformative leadership in the telecom industry.

Globe was also awarded for its successful venture into financial technology.

Twimbit, a leading research and advisory firm, celebrated over 100 companies across 23 categories this year, highlighting excellence in various facets of the telecom industry.

Cu, who has led Globe since 2008, was acknowledged for steering the company to become the nation’s mobile leader, maintaining market share dominance for seven consecutive years. Reflecting on the journey, Cu emphasized innovation and customer-centricity as key to Globe’s success.

“When I embarked on this journey years ago, my vision was to revolutionize the telecommunications landscape in the Philippines. Amidst the disruptions of that era, we adopted a challenger mindset. By embracing disruption, we transformed crises into opportunities and delivered one innovation after another to create wonderful experiences for our customers,” Cu said during the ceremony in Singapore.

Under Cu’s leadership, Globe has focused on uplifting the lives of Filipinos through technology, addressing daily challenges in financial services, healthcare, and education by providing scalable digital solutions.

Globe’s fintech venture, Mynt, operator of GCash, received the “Telco to Ace Financial Services” award. This accolade recognizes telcos integrating financial services into their offerings, significantly impacting banking, payments, and financial transactions.

Cu highlighted GCash’s pivotal role in enhancing financial inclusion in the Philippines, noting its growth from an SMS-based platform to the country’s leading financial app with a valuation of over $2 billion.

“GCash has become a lifeline for Filipinos, enabling them to carry out daily transactions from the safety of their homes. It has grown from an SMS-based platform to the country’s leading financial app and the nation’s only double unicorn. Since then, GCash has doubled down on its mission of financial inclusion, expanding its range of financial services for underserved and unbanked Filipinos,” Cu said.

He also noted GCash’s strategic impact on the digital economy, increasing the banked population from 29% pre-pandemic to 56%, and expanding financial services access to Filipinos overseas.

Globe’s success at the Twimbit Awards underscores its commitment to innovation, customer-centricity, and transformative leadership in the digital revolution of the Philippines.
