Globe expands network with 352 towers, 1,942 site upgrades in first half of 2024

Globe Telecom has significantly advanced its network infrastructure in the first half of 2024, building 352 new cell towers and upgrading 1,942 existing mobile sites to LTE technology.

These efforts aim to enhance Globe’s mobile services and data speeds, providing Filipinos with more reliable connectivity.

In addition to the mobile network improvements, Globe has also expanded its fiber infrastructure by deploying 39,880 fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) lines from January to June 2024.

The expansion further extends the company’s high-speed internet coverage across the country.

The network expansion strategy is part of Globe’s broader plan to maximize its existing fiber inventory while aligning with a reduced Capital Expenditure (Capex) allocation.

The strategic approach has allowed Globe to maintain network quality and capacity while returning to sustainable investment levels.

Joel Agustin, Globe’s Head of Service Planning and Engineering, highlighted the company’s commitment to inclusive connectivity.

“We believe that every Filipino deserves access to reliable communication services. We’re here to empower them with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world,” Agustin said.

Globe’s network development is not confined to urban areas. The company has successfully brought connectivity to over 500 Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), reinforcing its dedication to bridging the digital divide.

By connecting these remote communities, Globe enables residents to access essential online services, educational resources, and economic opportunities previously limited by geographical barriers.

Since 2023, Globe has shifted its focus from opportunistic capacity expansion to optimizing network investments. This pivot has resulted in positive outcomes, allowing the company to scale its operations efficiently while supporting the government’s initiatives to enhance nationwide connectivity and improve quality of life.

Globe continues to play a pivotal role in improving the Philippines’ digital infrastructure, ensuring that more Filipinos can benefit from reliable and fast communication services.
