Globe has marked a new milestone in its journey of celebrating Filipino journalistic talent by expanding the Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA) to Luzon for its 11th anniversary.

With the theme “#IgnitingProgress,” GMEA@11 is set to recognize and inspire media professionals who utilize digital platforms to create meaningful and impactful stories.

For over a decade, GMEA has honored the best in journalism and content creation, and this year, it aims to cast a wider net by including participants from Luzon, alongside those from Visayas and Mindanao. The move aims to uncover journalistic gems from across the archipelago and support Globe’s mission of fostering digital enablement for nation-building.

“GMEA has consistently highlighted the exceptional talent and commitment of Filipino storytellers. Entering our 11th year, we are expanding the awards to Luzon as we hope to find more journalistic gems from across the country,” said Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe.

“We are very excited to see the many innovative ways that our talented journalists and content creators use digital platforms to inspire and drive progress in our communities,” she added.

This year’s GMEA@11 will align with Globe’s sustainability pillars: Digital Nation, Care for People, and Care for Environment, ensuring that the stories not only celebrate journalistic prowess but also contribute to societal progress.

The award categories reflect the changing media landscape, with traditional platforms like Radio and TV News Reports being recognized alongside Online News Reports and Photo of the Year.

A special focus is given to the Digital Storytelling Category, which celebrates creativity across digital platforms, emphasizing Globe’s sustainability pillars. This category will recognize the Best Blog Post and Best Social Media Video

Special Awards will spotlight work that promotes innovation and social impact, including Newsmaker of the Year, Editor of the Year, and Globe of Good Story of the Year.

These categories invite entries from media correspondents outside of Metro Manila, as well as from the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Winners will be rewarded handsomely, with first-place awardees receiving PHP30,000 in cash and trophies, while second-placers will receive PHP20,000 and trophies. The Photo of the Year winner will take home PHP20,000, and runners-up will get PHP10,000.

Entries will be judged on content quality, storytelling style, community impact, and effective use of multiple platforms.

Submissions are open for stories published from April 2023 to May 2024, with the entry or submission period running from January to May 2024.

The winners will be celebrated in a ceremony in September 2024.

As Globe continues to lead in providing digital solutions, GMEA@11 underscores its commitment to fostering a more informed and engaged society. The awards not only spotlight excellence in journalism but also encourage a discourse that drives progress and action within the community.
