GMA Network, a dominant force in Philippine media, continues to solidify its leadership in the digital realm, expanding its reach to online audiences and adapting to evolving TV viewing habits.
At the GMA Annual Stockholders’ Meeting on May 15, President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. emphasized the Network’s strides in digital innovation.
“We continued to expand our presence in the digital space, more solidly establishing our relevance to the growing online audiences, particularly in the key social media platforms. Through all our content-producing teams within the Network and its subsidiaries, we’ve expanded our content offerings, ramped up the volume of exclusive digital content, and implemented specific strategies to enhance audience growth while improving engagement and audience diversity,” Duavit said.
GMA Network’s digital ad revenue, including website earnings, increased by 72% year-on-year.
The Network’s official channels on YouTube, Facebook, and TikTok garnered 45.2 billion video views in 2023, marking a 38% rise from the previous year.
Subscriber and follower counts across social media platforms saw a 17% increase, totaling 345.6 million by the end of 2023.
To meet the demands of modern media consumption, GMA Network launched Kapuso Stream in 2023, enabling high-definition livestreaming of its programs across various internet-enabled devices, which complements its extensive terrestrial TV coverage.
The GMA Mobile App also experienced growth, reaching 3.86 million downloads by the end of 2023, a 17% increase from 2022.
Despite challenges, GMA Network maintained its position as the leading broadcast network in the Philippines.
According to Nielsen data, GMA was the top TV channel nationwide in 2023, with GTV ranking third. Additionally, GMA’s regional newscasts reached over 25 million viewers, and its flagship radio stations, DZBB 594 and DWLS 97.1, led in Mega Manila.
The Network also expanded its terrestrial broadcast reach by adding 12 Digital Terrestrial TV (DTT) transmitter stations, bringing its total to 108 TV stations nationwide.
Furthermore, GMA Network renewed several international linear channel subscription agreements and explored new partnerships with IP-based subscription services.
In 2023, GMA Network returned to film production with notable releases such as “The Cheating Game” and “Firefly,” the latter receiving critical acclaim and multiple awards. Looking ahead, GMA Pictures plans to release several new productions in 2024 and 2025.
GMA Network closed 2023 with a consolidated net income of Php 3.162 billion, a 42% decrease from the previous year.
Net consolidated revenue stood at Php 18.637 billion, down 14% year-on-year. Despite these economic challenges, Duavit remains optimistic.
“We leave no stone unturned in fulfilling our commitment to continuously grow and evolve, as we further build our audiences, maintain our relevance, and be where our audiences are, whether in or out of their homes.”
