BACOLOD CITY – E.B. Magalona municipality in Negros Occidental will enforce a 24-hour liquor ban on Good Friday, March 29.
The ban comes as part of an Executive Order No. 31, series of 2024, issued this week by Mayor Marvin Malacon, which outlaws the sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverages in the town on that day.
Deputy Chief Police Captain Markelly Laganipa of E.B. Magalona Municipal Police Station announced they will initiate an “recorida” – an information campaign – to educate the public, especially store owners, about the liquor ban.
Laganipa reiterated that the consumption of liquor in public places will also be prohibited.
Patrolling will be conducted to ensure adherence to the executive order, as part of the town’s efforts to maintain a safe and orderly Holy Week.
Violators of the executive order will initially receive a warning, shared Laganipa. Continued non-compliance will lead to apprehension.
