Grandson charged in Himamaylan elder’s murder

BACOLOD CITY — On Tuesday, authorities charged a 24-year-old man with the murder of his 80-year-old grandfather in Sitio Malusay, Barangay Caradio-an, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Police Lt. Col. Anthony Grande, the city’s police chief, reported that the suspect visited his grandfather last Sunday, during which he allegedly became violent and attacked the elderly man with a bolo.

The victim sustained 11 hack wounds to the head, throat, and arms and was found deceased beside a fish pond.

The gruesome discovery was made by the victim’s son-in-law on Monday morning when he visited to extend a coffee invitation.

Upon hearing of the incident, the suspect’s family promptly surrendered him to the police.

Grande mentioned the suspect’s mother disclosed that her son had been experiencing mental instability for a week and had gone several days without food.
