BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson on Monday said that the grandstand of the Panaad Park and Stadium will not be used for Panaad Festival 2020 due to the looming repair and renovation of the facility in preparation for the province’s hosting of Palarong Pambansa 2021.

Panaad Park and Stadium has been the venue of the yearly festival of Negros Occidental held every April.

Lacson said the grandstand will be closed as it is the first area to be repaired. But other parts of the park can still be used for the festival.

The provincial government has allocated P150 million for the repair and renovation of the Panaad Park and Stadium.

Lacson that while the repairs will result in a smaller venue for this year’s Panaad festival “it does not mean a smaller celebration.”

“We will not anymore use the grandstand because that is where the major renovation will start. We will adjust with whatever space available,” Lacson said.

Lacson clarified that there will be no total closure of the Panaad Park and Stadium as only parts of the facility be repaired and renovated.

“We will close the area where we will start working and the first area is the oval track,” Lacson said.

Lacson said the repair and renovation of the Panaad Park and Stadium will last for a year.

Meanwhile, Lacson also confirmed that the Ceres Negros Football Club has already pulled out from the Panaad Park and Stadium as its home base and transferred its home base to Luzon.

Ceres-Negros Football Club initiated repairs of the grandstand and the oval track last year when it hosted national and international football events here.
