BACOLOD City – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Don Salvador Benedicto (DSB), Negros Occidental, clarified that the fire incident reported at Spur 21, Barangay Kumaliskis yesterday was not a forest fire, but grass fire.

Senior Fire Officer 2 Laddy Maglasang, officer-in-charge town fire marshal, said the blaze, which broke out around 12:15 p.m., razed half hectare of a grassy patch in the area.

“Kung lantawon mo daw ka dako gid ka sunog pero gamay lang siya, galing ara gid siya sa kilid highway, puro hilamon lang nasunog,” Maglasang said, adding that the affected area was situated on a cliff.

In fact, Maglasang said they had difficulty at first to put out the fire because of its height. “Tam-an ka taas, kag sa kilid dalan pa, alagyan gid,” he added.

But with the help of some residents, they were able to reach the affected area by climbing on their firetrucks.

Maglasang said that fire out was declared after 30 minutes.

Maglasang said that ashes from burned grasses nearby might have caused the fire in the area.

“May gapanutod hilamon suno sa mga pumuluyo, basi gindala ka hangin ang abo,” he added.
