PILAR, Capiz – A groundbreaking ceremony for the new public market in Pilar, Capiz, was held on Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, in Barangay Rosario.
Mayor Arnold A. Perez led the event, which was attended by Pinuno Party-list Representative Howard Guintu, provincial board members Pepe Del Rosario and Blesilda “Ginging” Perez-Almalbis, Dr. Gualberto Bernas IV, Panay Vice Mayor Amy Asis, and other local officials.
Construction of the market will begin immediately following the ceremony.
Perez said the project has been in the works for years, with the goal of providing the community with a larger and more accessible public market.
The new market will have a floor area of 2,800 square meters and will be built on a six-hectare municipal property in Sitio Baluk, Barangay Rosario, approximately 1.5 kilometers from the municipal hall.
The property will also house other facilities, including a mall, transport terminal, evacuation center, slaughterhouse, and a “Bagsakan” center.
The PHP 100,004,000 project is funded through a loan from the Land Bank of the Philippines.
Perez announced that the current public market will be converted into a public plaza to serve additional community needs.
