BACOLOD City – Task Force Kasanag national commander John Chiong checked on the compliance of a sugar central with the order of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) to stop wastewater discharges from its distillery Plant.
Chiong said Wednesday that he inspected the site on Tuesday and he claimed to have found wastewater discharge from the plant owned by Victorias Milling Co. (VMC).
The complaint against the plant was coursed through the TFK complaint desk.
Chiong said that a letter from DENR-EMB regional director Atty. Ramar Niel Pascua stated that DENR-EMB officials held a technical conference recently.
“The office is monitoring the compliance of VMC upon submission of the necessary documentation as of their commitment,” Pascua said in his letter.
Pascua added that “during the meeting VMC has submitted to cease the discharge of wastewater from their plant until they are able to comply with their commitment and be issued a discharge permit.”
He also urged the complainants to inform his office “of any activity being conducted by VMC during this period so we can monitor their compliance and enforce the appropriate actions that are deemed warranted.”
VMC has yet to issue a statement.
