The province of Guimaras broke ground for the construction of a COVID-19 field hospital on October 26, 2021.
The 22-bed capacity modular hospital is located at San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
Governor Samuel T. Gumarin; lone district Rep. Ma. Lucille L. Nava; Dr. JC Rahman Nava, Special Consultant for Health Sector and Hospital Operations of the Guimaras provincial government; representatives from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital (DCGNPH) led the groundbreaking ceremony.
The project is funded by the Department of Public Works and Highways as support to the provincial government in managing the COVID-19 pandemic.
Costing P25,197,196.50, the field hospital is a container van with comfort rooms, nurse station, pantry, storage room, donning and doffing rooms, including water tank, generators and distribution transformer.
The facility is expected to be completed in three months.
Governor Gumarin said the field hospital is a big help to augment the healthcare facilities in the province during this time of pandemic.
“Nagapasalamat gid kita nga ginsabat ang request naton para madugangan ang aton pasilidad diri sa probinsiya nga maka-cater sang mga COVID-19 patients naton. Kun may kaugalingon kita nga pasilidad diri sa probinsiya indi na naton kinahanglan dal-on pa sa siyudad ang aton mga pasyente bangud madamo man sila sang pasyente didto. Daku gid ini nga bulig para sa Guimaras kay overwhelmed ang aton mga healthcare facilities because of this COVID-19 pandemic,” Gumarin said.
Guimaras has experienced a spike in COVID-19 cases in the past two months but the province is now classified by the Department of Health as “low risk” due to the significant decline in the number of new cases recorded daily.
As of November 3, 2021 the province has 32 active cases of COVID-19 out of the 3,142 total confirmed cases in the island since the pandemic broke out.
