Guimaras Earns Second Good Governance Seal Under Gov. Nava

GUIMARAS—The province of Guimaras has been awarded its second Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), marking a milestone under the leadership of Governor JC Rahman Nava.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recognized Guimaras as one of 41 provinces in the country to earn the prestigious SGLG award after passing the 2024 assessment, following its first win in 2023.

Nueva Valencia, a municipality in Guimaras, also received the SGLG, joining 576 other municipalities across the nation that achieved this recognition for 2024.

“Securing this award for the second consecutive year is a testament to our commitment to transparency, accountability, and dedicated public service,” Nava said.

The SGLG acknowledges local government units (LGUs) that excel in core governance areas, such as Financial Administration, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection, and Health Compliance. Other key metrics include Safety, Peace and Order, Business-Friendliness, Environmental Management, and Youth Development.

Under Nava’s administration, Guimaras prioritized these areas, meeting the strict requirements set by the DILG.

“This award reinforces our resolve to continue serving our community with integrity and innovation,” Nava added.

The SGLG aims to encourage sustainable local governance by honoring LGUs that demonstrate consistent progress across multiple sectors, from tourism and cultural preservation to education and social welfare.

This recognition highlights Guimaras’ dedication to achieving high standards in local governance, a goal that Gov. Nava said he remains committed to upholding.

The DILG’s SGLG initiative has become a benchmark for excellent governance among LGUs nationwide, rewarding effective leadership and responsive service across communities.
