Guimaras hosts art contest for Fire Prevention Month

Guimaras province celebrated Fire Prevention Month by showcasing local student talent during the Provincial Art Contest on March 13, 2024, at the Provincial Covered Gym in San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

The event, facilitated by the Provincial Government in conjunction with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection – Guimaras, featured four competitive categories: Composo, Binalaybay, Poster Making, and Drawing.

In Composo, a student from Salvacion National High School in Nueva Valencia earned first place, with peers from Dr. Catalino G. Nava Memorial High School and Jordan National High School securing second and third. Jordan National High School triumphed in the Binalaybay Contest, followed by Calaya National High School and Buenavista National High School.

The Drawing Contest crowned a student from Alaguisoc Elementary School as champion, with Sapal Elementary School and Dasal Elementary School taking the subsequent places. For the Poster Making Contest, first place was awarded to a student from Ayangan National High School in Sibunag, with Calaya National High School and Hijas de Jesus St. Joseph School in the succeeding ranks.

Prizes were distributed with Php 1,500 for first-place winners, Php 1,000 for second, Php 800 for third, and a consolation of Php 500 for other participants.

Additionally, the Iloilo Emerald Lions Club contributed to the event by providing reading glasses, medicines, and FBS screenings for the employees of the Provincial Government.

This year’s Fire Prevention Month carries the theme “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi ka Nag-iisa,” reminding the community that fire safety is a collective responsibility.
