
The inland municipal fisheries production in Guimaras reached 57.06 metric tons in 2024, down 8.82% from 62.58 metric tons in 2023.
The top five species caught in inland municipal waters in 2024 were tilapia, spadefish, white shrimp, mullet, and tarpon.
Tilapia recorded the highest production volume at 7.38 metric tons, accounting for 12.93% of the total inland output.
“Its production increased by 12.93% from 6.54 metric tons in 2023,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
Losare added that spadefish production in the province reached 4.90 metric tons, making up 8.59% of total inland municipal fisheries output.
“This was an increase from 2.11 metric tons in 2023,” she said.
White shrimp production was estimated at 4.72 metric tons, a 6.53% decrease from the previous year.
Mullet production increased by 31.44%, rising from 3.34 metric tons in 2023. Meanwhile, tarpon production dropped 3.69% to 3.91 metric tons.
The estimated value of inland fisheries production in Guimaras was PHP5.78 million in 2024, down 31.64% from PHP8.45 million in 2023.
The top five species in terms of production value were white shrimp, mullet, spadefish, tilapia, and catfish.
White shrimp had the highest production value at an estimated PHP947,360, contributing 16.40% to total inland fisheries output.
“Its value decreased by 26.36% from PHP1.2 million in 2023,” Losare said.
Mullet production value rose to an estimated PHP698,320, making up 12.09% of the total inland fisheries production value.
“This was an increase from PHP549,840 in 2023,” she added.
Spadefish production value surged 89.32% to an estimated PHP687,840.
“Tilapia’s production value declined by 39.31% from PHP1.04 million in 2023,” Losare said.
Catfish production was valued at PHP429,950, down 48.34% from 2023.
