The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is continuously expanding key roads in Guimaras province, aiming to facilitate smoother, quicker, and safer travel across the island.
The DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office has extended a segment of the Guimaras Circumferential Road, particularly in Barangay Lapaz, Nueva Valencia.
This development is part of the ₱39.6 million initiative to convert an 800-meter stretch from two lanes to four, complete with V-canal drainage, concrete slope protection, thermoplastic pavement markings, and road warning signs.
According to District Engineer Randolfo A. Melosantos, Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel reported that this road enhancement will substantially boost eco-tourism in Nueva Valencia, potentially increasing the visibility of local products and stimulating economic growth.
RD Oropel highlighted that the broader road will improve access to tourist sites, educational institutions, markets, government offices, health centers, and commercial venues.
“It will also amplify productivity and economic opportunities, integrate residents with government services, and provide more convenient transportation,” Oropel said.
DE Melosantos pointed out that this project is among numerous DPWH efforts in Guimaras to maintain seamless connectivity between towns. “This road widening is crucial for the mobility of residents and visitors, efficient goods transport, and the delivery of public services,” he said.
Melosantos emphasized the positive impact on tourism, particularly in the summer when tourist numbers spike. “The upgraded road will ensure a smooth travel experience to popular sites like Biker’s Hill Resort, Guisi Lighthouse, and Tahi Beach Resort, inviting more visitors and benefiting the local economy,” Melosantos said.
