The province of Guimaras will host the Guimaras National Cycling Fest 2024, aiming to strengthen its position as a prime destination for adventure sports tourism.

Scheduled from November 16 to December 1, the event is expected to attract around 1,000 cyclists from across the country under the theme “One Bike. One Island. One Paradise.”

“The Guimaras National Cycling Fest this year is more than just a sporting event; it is a testament to our commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and sustainable tourism,” said Francisco Gentoral of the Provincial Economic Development Office (PEDO) during a press conference on November 12.

Gentoral added that the event seeks to boost local tourism.

Project Leader and PEDO Tourism Officer Mary Rose Gonzales shared that the provincial government has allocated PHP 1.8 million to support the expanded festival, which will span two weeks and feature multiple events, unlike previous years’ single-race format.

“This year, we’re offering a variety of cycling activities to accommodate more participants and highlight the island’s natural beauty,” Gonzales said.

The festival kicks off on November 16 with a Bike Jamboree, combining cycling with environmental initiatives like tree planting and coastal cleanups. This opening event will conclude with camping at Abelardo’s Beach Resort.

On the same weekend, a Bike Fair & Show (November 16-17) will display a variety of bike categories. Additionally, a Kid’s Fun Race and bike clinics on November 17 will encourage young riders to hone their skills.

Major competitions showcasing Guimaras’s challenging terrain will also be held. The Gravel Ride is set for November 23, and the Criterium Race will take place on November 30, offering competitive excitement for advanced riders.

The marquee events include the Cross-Country Marathon National Championship on November 24 and the Enduro National Championship on December 1.

Event organizer Carlos Cordova III noted that the festival’s scope has expanded significantly this year.

“We’re expecting over a thousand cyclists this time around, up from last year’s 300 participants,” Cordova said.

Registration fees range from PHP 350 to PHP 1,000, depending on the category. Guimaras residents can join for free, courtesy of Governor JC Rahman Nava, MD.
