Guimaras poultry farmers receive P4-M aid

The provincial government of Guimaras turned over the first tranche of funding support totaling P4 million to poultry farmers in the province on May 5, 2021.

The recipient is the Isla de Guimaras Native Chicken Production and Marketing Enterprise that will use the fund for the construction of the enterprise main building, grow-out and breeding houses for native chicken.

The turn over and ground breaking ceremony at Barangay Mabini, Buenavista, Guimaras was facilitated by the Provincial Office for Agricultural Services headed by Provincial Agriculturist Mr. Ronnie D. Morante.

Governor Samuel T. Gumarin, Department of Agriculture (DA) Region VI Regional Technical Director Rene B. Famoso, and Mr. Morante led the turnover of a check for Php 4,857,218.96 to Isla de Guimaras Native Chicken Production and Marketing Enterprise.

Adelina Galanza, chairperson of the Buenavista Development Cooperative which is the lead proponent, received the check in behalf of the enterprise.

The Isla de Guimaras Native Chicken Production and Marketing Enterprise is composed of the following proponent groups: Buenavista Development Cooperative, Guimaras Poultry and Livestock Raisers Association and Concordia Livestock and Poultry Raisers Association.

Governor Gumarin stated that the production of native chicken in the province has not disappeared and the assistance extended by the Department of Agriculture to the poultry raisers made a significant contribution.

“Ang production sang native chicken for how many years diri sa probinsiya sang Guimaras wala gid nadula, with the support of the Department of Agriculture na-sustain sang Probinsiya sang Guimaras ang production sang manok sa tanan nga mga konsumenador,” he said.

Department of Agriculture Region 6 director Engr. Remelyn R. Recoter in her message said that it has been the goal of the Philippine Rural Development Project to enable communities and enhance opportunities in the countryside, ultimately to raise incomes, productivity, and competitiveness of the local farmers and fisher folk.

She also reiterated that the “Isla de Guimaras Native Chicken: Healthier Na, Namit Pa!”.

Director Famoso expressed that many farmers can benefited from this project to augment their livelihood.

“Kadamo gali nga mga farmers ang mabuligan sang amo ni nga project which is 257 farmers,” he said.
