The Province of Guimaras welcomed the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines as the island gears up towards the new normal.
One hundred doses of CoronaVac, the vaccine made by China’s Sinovac Company, arrived in Guimaras on March 11, 2021.
Governor Samuel T. Gumarin, Guimaras Lone District Representative Ma. Lucille L. Nava, Dr. Nilda Baingan of the Provincial Department of Health Office-Guimaras and Provincial Health Officer Dr. NL Cathrel Nava fetched the vaccine at the Ro-Ro Wharf in the Municipality of Jordan when it arrived.
The vaccines were taken from the storage facility of the Department of Health-Center for Health Development Western Visayas. It was then brought to the storage facility at the Provincial Health Office.
Frontline health workers from the three hospitals in the Guimaras – Dr. Catalino Gallego Nava Provincial Hospital, Buenavista Emergency Hospital, Nueva Valencia District Hospital, will get the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccines that have reached the province.
Governor Gumarin thanked the Department of Health and the national government.
These vaccines are crucial for the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic as health care workers are on the frontline according to Gumarin.
He said that these vaccines will be the key for the world to go back to a mere normal when herd immunity against the virus is achieved.
“Nagapasalamat kita sa Department of Health kag sa national government naton nga isa ang probinsiya sang Guimaras sa mga nahatagan sang vaccines. Very vital gid ini sa away naton sa COVID-19 pandemic. Kinahanglan sang aton mga frontline health care workers sang armas nga ibato sa pagpakig-away sini nga virus. Ang vaccine lang ang paglaum naton nga makabalik kita gamay sa normal,” Gumarin said.
Aside from the vaccines provided by the national government, the Provincial Government of Guimaras is also in the process of procuring COVID-19 vaccines for Guimarasnons.
