For the second consecutive year, Guimaras was named Best Provincial Statistics Committee (PSC) in Western Visayas.
The award was presented during the 35th National Statistics Month Closing and Awarding Ceremony in Western Visayas, where Guimaras outperformed the region’s six provinces in the 2023 performance evaluation conducted by the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
The PSC serves as the provincial counterpart to the RSC and the PSA Board, acting as the highest policymaking body on statistical matters at the provincial level. Its key functions include formulating statistical policies to address local statistical issues and recommending solutions to provincial government entities for improving provincial statistics.
Recognizing the essential role of the PSC in statistical and development activities, both at the provincial and regional/national levels, the Best PSC Award was established to honor committees that consistently excel in their duties.
The award also acknowledges the PSCs’ active involvement in statistical policymaking, programming, and advocacy at the provincial level. It encourages committees to engage more in discussions and resolutions of statistical issues within their provinces.
Provinces are assessed based on several criteria, including the number of approved PSC resolutions, the average number of agenda items discussed in PSC meetings, participation rates of PSC members, the number of meetings convened, submission of National Statistics Month (NSM) reports, and other accomplishments such as workshops, capacity development activities, and outputs related to statistical standards, classification systems, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas hosted the awarding ceremony at the Seminar Room 1 of the National Museum of the Philippines in Iloilo, with the event also streamed virtually via the Western Visayas NSM Facebook page.
Guimaras PSC also placed third in Best Statistical Infographics and was recognized as one of the top three awardees of the Best NSM Agency Award.
