A province-wide gun ban will be implemented during the highlights of Manggahan Festival 2023 and celebration of 31st Provincehood Anniversary.
The suspension of the Permit to Carry Firearms Outside Residence will take effect from 12:01 a.m. of May 19, 2023 until 11:59 p.m. of May 23, 2023.
Governor JC Rahman A. Nava, MD explained that the implementation of gun ban is part of the measures being taken by the Provincial Government of Guimaras to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration during the last weekend of the festival.
Nava cited hat in the past two weekends of the celebration, the Guimaras Police Provincial Office did not record any untoward or violent incident related to Manggahan Festival and he hopes that this will continue until the end of the festival.
Some high-profile guests and officials from the provinces in Western Visayas may attend the festivities.
A large volume of crowd is also expected at the Provincial Capitol Grounds due to the invited showbiz personalities and celebrity bands.
Actors Vin Abrenica and Yves Flores will grace the coronation night of Miss Guimaras on May 19 while Shamrock Band is scheduled to perform on May 20.
On the other hand, the fireworks display and performances of two big OPM bands Mayonnaise and Rivermaya on May 22 are expected to attract people.
The most anticipated Mango-Eat-All-You-Can is also slated on May 19-22.
Governor Nava said that the implementation of gun ban will ensure that the Province of Guimaras will have a peaceful celebration of Manggahan Festival.
