BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental Eugenio Jose Lacson and Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz turned over checks for P1.1 million to the beneficiaries of the Provincial Government’s Barangay Insurance Program for Barangay Tanods, Officials and Employees at the Capitol Social Hall Monday morning.
The 21 insured individuals are from the different cities and municipalities of the province.
Under the program, the insured individual can receive P50,000 for natural death claim and P100,000 for accidental death.
The program was created 20 years ago as the provincial government acknowledged the important role of barangay tanods and officials in assisting the government in the implementation of peace and order and their exposure to risk and danger.
It specifically aims to provide life insurance coverage to qualified barangay tanods, officials and employees to provide socio-economic interventions to their families in times of need.
Lacson said that to expand the program and coverage this year, the provincial government executed a new Memorandum of Agreement with LGUs and barangays to increase the maximum number of tanods per barangay from 20 – 25 tanods.
He also said that as frontliners, who are also exposed to risks, Barangay Health Workers were also included in the program, with a maximum number of 20 BHWs per barangay.
Lacson also reminded everyone to continue to always observe health and safety protocols. (With a report from Capitol PIO)
