BACOLOD CITY – Residents of Himamaylan City and southern Negros Occidental will soon benefit from improved cellular network and data connectivity after Mayor Raymund Tongson signed a PHP 390 million agreement with PhilTower Consortium Inc. (PhilTower).
Mayor Tongson represented Himamaylan City in the signing of the memorandum of agreement with PhilTower Chief Governor and External Affairs Officer Kalvin Laurence Antonio Parpan on Jan. 23, 2025.
The project was granted to Himamaylan following a recommendation from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).
“This recognition highlights the city’s strong performance and compliance with the programs and initiatives of these agencies,” Tongson said.
The collaboration between Himamaylan City, PhilTower, and Miescor Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC) aims to address the limited cellular signal and mobile data connectivity in the area by building strategically located cell towers.
“This multi-million project is also a green light for investors, showing that Himamaylan City is ready for continued development,” Tongson added.
He emphasized that not only do residents face connectivity issues, but local officials and other stakeholders do as well.
“In today’s digital age, where strong and reliable signals are essential, this project will have a significant impact on Himamaylan City,” he said.
Tongson expressed gratitude to DICT and ARTA for their support in facilitating the project.
“It will bolster our ongoing efforts to drive progress and development for Himamaylan,” he said.
