BACOLOD City – A husband allegedly choked his “drunken” wife to death inside their house at Barangay Camindangan, Sipalay City in Negros Occidental last Wednesday.
Police Major Jake Barila, city police chief, identified the fatality as Gerly Caldito, 44.
Barila said an argument erupted between Caldito and her husband, Francisco, 49 when the latter saw her drunk after returning home from their farm.
“They were arguing about something, and then the suspect allegedly choked his wife using a belt,” Barila said.
The victim was found dead inside their house around 7 a.m. the following day, Barila said.
The suspect surrendered to the barangay officials’ hours later and was later turned over to the police. The belt that he used on his wife was also recovered from the scene.
The couple has four children, two already have their own families in Manila while their two minor children were at Poblacion village when the incident happened, Barila said.
Barila said the victim’s elder sister will be filing parricide charges against the suspect, who admitted the crime to the authorities.
However, the suspect claimed he was just too angry because of his wife’s behavior.
The victim would usually get drunk, according to her husband, Barila said.
The suspect is detained at Sipalay City Police Station.
