Despite undergoing recent surgical procedures, 67-year-old Mayor Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City has assured the public that his health is stable and should not be a cause for concern as he prepares for the upcoming 2025 elections.
“There’s nothing to worry about. I am ready to fight,” Treñas said during a press conference, expressing confidence in his ability to continue serving as mayor.
Treñas shared that he recently underwent sinus surgery in August and is now feeling well.
“I’m feeling fine, except for my sinus because I had surgery due to frequent sinusitis,” he said.
The mayor also revealed that he has been taking Ozempic, a medication primarily used to manage Type 2 diabetes.
Ozempic helps regulate blood sugar levels and can suppress appetite, leading to reduced food intake and weight loss.
Since starting the medication, Treñas said he has lost 20 pounds (approximately 9 kilograms).
He added that he monitors his blood sugar regularly and always carries a glucometer to check his glucose levels.
Treñas has faced several health challenges in recent years.
He was hospitalized in October last year due to overfatigue and suffered from severe sinusitis and body pains in September.
In December 2023, he underwent angioplasty, a procedure to open blocked coronary arteries, and in June this year, he was hospitalized and treated for pneumonia.
