The Iloilo City Police Station 5 (ICPS5) recently collaborated with JB Amateur Basketball League (JB ABL) in bringing the “LIGA KONTRA ILLEGAL NGA DROGA” Mandurriao Inter-Barangay Youth Basketball League that is set to kick off today.
Spearheaded by the advisory council composed of Station Commander PMAJ Rey M. Sumagaysay, Police Community Relation (PCR) PNCO PSSg Gerald M. Flores, and Chairman of ICPS5 Advisory Council Pastor Alexander Edroso, the basketball league aims to combat the spread of illegal drugs and raise awareness of its ill results to the youth of Mandurriao District.
The basketball league is also supported by the Mandurriao Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation and the Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) Mandurriao.
All barangays in Mandurriao will be joining the prestigious basketball league as well as several agencies in the inter-agency category.
12 teams also signified their intention to join the inter-agency, namely: ICSP5, Festive Walk, CBC Warriors, SEDA, S&R, SMCI Blue Falcons, Richmonde, Anytime Fitness, ABC Mandurriao, Survivors, SMCI Hunters, and Academy.
“This activity aims to develop physical, mental, and social skills. Encouraging the youth to participate in sports instead of engaging in illegal drugs,” said PSSg Flores.
Aside from the basketball main event itself, the league will also become an avenue for the drug surrenderees in Mandurriao a holistic approach to develop their social community engagement and the renewal of their well-being.
“Salamat sa ABC Mandurriao, SK Federation, sa aton City Director kag sa bilog nga PNP for supporting this program to help the youth stay away from illegal drugs,” said Sumagaysay.
On the other hand, this will become JB ABL’s second handled league after a successful JB ABL Season III ‘School Wars’.
The JB ABL is still led by founder and commissioner Jayphet Balbacal and will guide the ICSP5 youth basketball league.
