The Iloilo provincial government has allocated PHP 30 million for the Purok Resilience Program (PRP) in Barangay Nangka, Batad, to provide safer housing for communities vulnerable to flooding and landslides.

The program, launched in March 2024, aims to relocate families from hazard-prone areas, with Brgy. Nangka serving as the pilot site on a 5,000-square-meter lot acquired by the municipality.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on November 11 with Batad Mayor Elvira Alarcon and Homeless People’s Federation of the Philippines Inc. (HPFPI) National President Nerissa Germanelo to formalize the project.

The MOU defines the roles of the provincial government, Batad municipal government, Barangay Nangka, and HPFPI in implementing the program.

Gov. Defensor envisions establishing PRP in all municipalities to relocate residents exposed to natural and related hazards.

The funding will support the construction of 10 buildings, each housing three units, to provide homes for 30 families from hazard-prone areas. The shelters will include essential amenities such as bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, and living areas.

The units will also feature solar panels, ceramic tiles, and insulated metal roofs for sustainability and comfort.

The project is currently 10-15 percent complete, with work underway on the road network and drainage system.
