Ex-Officio Provincial Board Member Ramon Sullano of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)-Iloilo has called for stricter enforcement of speed limits on national roads, urging traffic enforcers, particularly from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), to be more visible.

Speaking on the Sanggunian in Action program on Tuesday, September 14, Sullano emphasized the need for a stronger presence of the LTO’s flying squad and the Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group on national highways.

“The speed of vehicles on our national highways is often excessive, and it seems there is no control over speed limits. While the province has Task Force Dalanon monitoring the condition of provincial and municipal roads, we need to ensure that enforcers, especially from the LTO, are visible and effectively regulating traffic on national roads,” Sullano said.

He also pointed out that vehicles frequently park along national highways, posing a danger to motorists.

“This is another issue that should be addressed by national agencies. We hope that the law governing speed limits on national highways will be enforced more rigorously,” he added.

Sullano stressed the importance of increased caution to prevent accidents, referencing a recent collision between a wing van and a cement mixer truck on Radial Road in Barangay Calaboa, Leganes, Iloilo, on September 10.

The accident resulted in the deaths of the cement mixer driver and their helper, and several others were injured.
