The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office 6 recently completed two new quarantine/isolation facilities for COVID-19 related cases in Iloilo City.
Regional Director Lea N. Delfinado said the facilities in Brgy. Sooc in Arevalo district were constructed to augment the existing two facilities in the area which are already in full capacity.
“Early this year, we had turned over to Iloilo City government the two facilities in Brgy. Sooc, one was 16-room, 16-person isolation facility for COVID-19 patients and 16-room, 32-pax off-site dormitory for frontline workers. Hence, due to the increased number of cases in the city, we have provided two additional isolation facilities in the area that can accommodate additional 32 patients,” Delfinado said.
“The construction of these facilities is timely, considering that our existing facilities are already full, hence, as its contribution towards the continuing battle against COVID-19, DPWH is doing its task in providing facilities that could cater both patients and medical workers,” she added.
Like other isolation facilities built by DPWH, the ₱25.95-million facility made from prefabricated container vans is composed of two buildings. Each has 16 airconditioned rooms, with individual comfort room; male and female nurse quarters; nurse station; sanitation area; and water supply.

A generator set is also provided to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
To date, DPWH has built a total of four isolation facilities, two off-site dormitories and one makeshift quarantine facility in Iloilo City.
“In Brgy. Sooc in Arevalo district, DPWH already provided three isolation facilities and one off-site dormitory and manned by Iloilo City government,” Delfinado said.
“In Brgy. Magsaysay in Lapaz district, we have turned over to Iloilo Provincial government one 16-room, 16-pax capacity isolation facility; one 16-room, 32-pax capacity off-site dormitory; and 65-pax capacity makeshift quarantine facility,” she added. (DPWH-6/RPAIO)
