Iloilo City, represented by Councilor Johnny Young, participated in the recently concluded 2022 World Smart City Expo (WSCE) in South Korea.
The event which was organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport of the Republic of Korea and supported by the World Bank’s Urban, Resilience and Land Global Practice capped off last Friday, September 2.
Young attended the WSCE on behalf of Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
On his social media page, Young shared several photos during the WSCE. He was able to visit the Smart Seoul Exhibition Hall which hosts the Seoul Transport Operation and Information Service TOPIS) or the public information system of Seoul, South Korea.
He also visited Pangyo Techno Valley and Pangyo Clean Tower which operates the waste-to-energy facility provided by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation under the public-private partnership scheme (PPP).
Treňas has previously said that participating in the said event will help promote the city to the global arena and support the implementation of programs geared towards the long-term goal of becoming a Smart City.
The WSCE is considered the largest smart city event in the Asia-Pacific region which is participated by different governments, companies, and experts from all over the world to discuss a livable, sustainable, and inclusive city using smart urban solutions.
The event featured conferences, seminars, exhibitions, business-related events, and fit-for-purpose side events aimed at learning various smart city initiatives for improved urban service delivery, leveraging emerging technologies, and solutions; and providing a platform for technical knowledge sharing and peer learning around digital transformation and ecosystem; and; supporting cities to identify smart city initiatives relevant to their development context.
“Smart City” means utilizing the use of science and technology and innovation to deliver good governance and services to the public. (DG)
