BACOLOD City – Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas told Bacolod media who visited his office Friday the significant impact of MORE Power on the city government and to the lives of the people in the city.
Treñas said before they had to contend with frequent unscheduled power interruptions and high power rates, but now more investors are coming to the city because of stable power supply and competitive power rates.
The Bacolod journalists went to Iloilo City to look into the operations of MORE Power, which offered a joint venture with Central Negros Cooperative (Ceneco) under the name of Ignite Power.
Ceneco serves Bacolod City and other parts of Negros Occidental.
“Grab the opportunity with MORE Power,” Treñas said, adding that the “partnership” between the city and the distribution utility was very advantageous.
“Its impact on the city government and the people is very significant,” Treñas added.
The mayor said the entry of coal-fired power plants operated by Global Business Power Corp. improved the supply side, but the problem then was the distribution services. The situation improved when MORE Power took over the distribution system.
It can be recalled that Ignite Power president Roel Castro, who is also president and COO of MORE Power in Iloilo, made a presentation for the Joint Venture Agreement with Central Negros Electric Cooperative.
Ceneco manager Atty. Arnel Lapore earlier said that the JVA is a needed shot in the arm of the “bleeding” cooperatives which lose P15-20 million a month due to systems loss or electricity lost to technical reasons and pilferage.
