The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) assured the public of heightened security as the local campaign period begins today, March 28.
Colonel Kim Legada, Iloilo City police chief, said that even months prior, they held meetings, coordinated with stakeholders, and collaborated with various agencies to ensure peace and order during the campaign period, which runs through May 10, 2025.
“We’re taking into consideration the safety of both the candidates and the public,” Legada said.
“Apart from their security, it is also our concern to ensure an honest and fair election.”
Legada said unit commanders have been briefed and are well-versed in the guidelines to ensure smooth and secure campaign activities.
As part of its strategic deployment, the ICPO will assign additional personnel to key areas, including campaign venues, public spaces and other high-risk locations to deter threats and respond quickly to concerns.
Legada added that they are coordinating closely with local government units (LGUs), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and other stakeholders to maintain a safe and orderly environment throughout the campaign.
He said intelligence operations have also been strengthened to identify and address potential security threats.
“We are fully committed to safeguarding the integrity of the election process,” Legada said.
He reaffirmed the ICPO’s dedication to political neutrality and strict enforcement of election laws.
Legada also urged candidates to obey the law and promote peace among their supporters.
He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and respect each other’s political choices and preferences.
During the national campaign period that began Feb. 11, the ICPO recorded no major election-related incidents, underscoring its commitment to public safety.
