‘Iloilo City Rises’ Book Launch today

The book “Iloilo City Rises” will be launched today, May 20.

Ushered by a kicker, “Padayon sa Pag-uswag,” the 256-page, 9” x 12” coffee-table book narrates in words and pictures Iloilo City’s evolution.

The book features seven chapters: “A Livable, Lively Urbanscape,” written by Ma. Luisa E. Mabunay and photographed by Moshe Jobel M. Aranas; “Between Heritage and Modernity,” written by Vicente S. Salas and photographed by Ernesto J. Villanueva Jr.; “Ahead of the Curve,” written by Ted Aldwin E. Ong and photographed by Antonio Z. Rojas Jr.; “Pagpalangga in the City,” written by Hazel P. Villa and photographed by Carlos P. Garcia; “Classrooms of the Future,” written by Hazel P. Villa and photographed by Carlos P. Garcia; “Living in Harmony with Nature,” written by Rhick T. Albay and photographed by Ruperto P. Quitag; and “Rhythm and Pulse,” written by Rhick T. Albay and photographed by Antonio Z. Rojas Jr.

Contributing photographers are Arnold Almacen and Nelson Rondan. All the writers and photographers are Ilonggos who reside and have their careers in the city.

A project of Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, this book serves as a legacy for Ilonggos, reminding them of the dramatic developments over the past 20 years, which have transformed Iloilo into a prosperous and vibrant metropolis, as well as a center of the arts, culture, and heritage in the Visayas.

The book is co-published by the Iloilo Festivals Foundation Inc. (IFFI) and Kasingkasing Press. Hardbound and softbound copies will be available after the launch.
