Iloilo City pulled off a stunner in the 2019 Batang Pinoy Visayas Qualifier after pocketing the overall championship with 57 gold, 49 silver, and 44 bronze medals.
Taekwondo jins bagged the most number of medals for the city. The gold medallists include Kyorugi winners Sendrick Valencia, Jed Morata, Elisha Venice Aguilar, Mervone Shayne Nicor, Seth Hendrik Porquez, Bill Kibanoff Donton III, Kyle Chin, and Jake Mamigo.
In volleyball girls, Iloilo City walloped Negros Occidental, 25-14, 25-13, in the gold medal match at the Central Philippine University (CPU) covered gym.
Iloilo City, however, lost the boys category crown to Cebu City, 23-25, 25-27.
Meanwhile, Cebu City ranked second with 42 gold, 55 silver, and 63 bronze medals. They dominated athletics, basketball, and some swimming tilts.
Cebu Province is in third place with 38 gold, 38 silver, and 52 bronze medals.
Negros Occidental is in fourth place with 30 gold, 18 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Lapu-Lapu City finished the competition with 28 gold, 14 silver, and 25 bronze medals, while Bacolod City and Mandaue City collected 23-27-35 GSB and 22-21-31 GSB, respectively.
In karatedo, Bacolod Citys Pauline Kalaw and Joy Tubongbanua each captured a gold medal, while Shifra Medina, also from Bacolod City, settled for a silver medal finish.
Alexi Kouzenye Cabayaran of Negros Occidental was the most bemedalled athlete in the girls swimming event after ruling the girls 200m freestyle and 50m freestyle.
