The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit received a new armored vehicle to strengthen its law enforcement capabilities and public safety operations.

The vehicle, donated by Chiu Rhett Cembrano of Golden Delta, was formally turned over in a ceremony on Tuesday, April 15.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said the donation reflects the growing collaboration between the city government and the private sector in supporting local police.

“This is not just a vehicle—it is a symbol of our shared commitment to security and public service,” Treñas said.

“Through collaborations like this, we are able to create a safer and more resilient Iloilo City,” he added.

The mayor said the armored vehicle will be vital for high-risk operations, offering enhanced mobility, protection, and rapid response for the SWAT team.

ICPO Director Col. Kim Legada said the van is outfitted with advanced features for critical operations.

“The SWAT van is fully armored and equipped with tools for high-risk warrant service and other operations that require special weapons and tactics,” Legada said.

He noted that while such situations are rare, readiness is key to reducing potential harm and ensuring effective response.

The donation complements earlier efforts by the city to equip the local police force with modern tools and technology.

In January, the city handed over 80 Taurus T4 caliber 5.56 assault rifles, 250 Motorola handheld radios, and three patrol vehicles to the ICPO.

“With this kind of support extended to us, the morale of our police is higher, and we are inspired to work,” Legada said.

“Knowing that we have these capabilities, there’s no challenge we cannot overcome,” he added.
