BACOLOD City – A police officer is among the two suspects in a shooting incident that wounded an agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-6 Special Enforcement Team (SET) here early this month.
Police Major Ritchie Gohee, head of Police Station 9, said the police officer with a rank of Patrolman was suspended and has not reported for duty in Jaro, Iloilo, since Oct 1, 2021.
Gohee said that 36-year-old Jayson Yayola, who survived the gun attack in Barangay Cabug on Oct 5, identified the policeman and the latter’s female companion as suspects in the incident.
The names of the two suspects were withheld, pending the decision of the City Prosecutor’s Office on the complaint for frustrated murder with robbery filed against them on Oct 15.
(Daily Guardian has already identified the police officer but we will not name him while we try to get his comment)
Gohee said that Yayola’s sling bag containing his wallet, cellular phone, and other valuables was reportedly stolen during the incident.
The attack happened a few months after PDEA agents arrested a suspected drug personality here last February.
Gohee said they are still investigating the motive of the incident and will check if the suspects have a connection with the arrested drug suspect.
