Celebration through sowing terror and violence?
The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) reiterated its directive to all police units all over the province to be on alert against attacks of the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), as the latter will commemorate its 52nd founding anniversary on Dec 26.
Colonel Gilbert Gorero, Iloilo police chief, said there is no place for complacency in the police force, especially with NPAs still looking for opportune time to sow violence and terror.
“This is not the time for us to let our guards down. NPAs are known for their treachery and banditry. We should be vigilant at all times,” Gorero said.
Iloilo’s top cop particularly told high-risk municipalities to be watchful and intensify their defense stance.
These high-risk towns are San Joaquin, Miag-ao, Igbaras, Leon, and Tubungan under the Southern Front (SF).
The Central (JAMaL) Front are the towns of Janiuay, Alimodian, Maasin, and Lambunao and Lemery while San Rafael is under the SPP East Area.
While the whole nation seeks peace, Gorero said the NPAs “aim to sow discord and violence.”
He was referring to the alleged harassment perpetrated by suspected NPAs at Barangay Balicua, Tubungan on Dec 17.
The rebels set off an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting members of the Tubungan Police Station.
Luckily, no one was hurt.
Gorero said that IPPO is now on full alert status.
He also assured that monitoring is continuously done to avert terror plans of the communist terrorist group.
