As part of the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) 9th anniversary in September 2022, the agency conducted the 2022 Sports Fest Visayas Group Conference in Iloilo on Sept 21 to 22.
Delegates from Region 7 and Region 8 arrived at Iloilo International Airport on September 20 and were welcomed by PSA Iloilo and PSA RSSO 6 personnel.
They competed games in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, badminton, chess, darts, and e-sports MLBB (Mobile Legends Bang Bang).
The Sports Fest started with an opening parade at Iloilo Sports Complex, La Paz, Iloilo City.
OIC-Regional Director Nelida Amolar delivered a message before the recitation of the Oath of Sportsmanship led by Accountant III Ronie Cajayon.
After the cheers and yells of the delegates from Region 6, 7 & 8, OIC-ANS of National Censuses Service Florante Varona formally declared the opening of the sports festival.
All games were played at Iloilo Sports Complex except for badminton that was held at Sports Hub-Iloilo and MLBB in J7 Hotel.
The awarding was held on Sept 22 at J7 Hotel, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The following winners were feted during the awarding: Region 8 for basketball (men), Region 6 for volleyball (men), Region 8 (women), Region 7 for badminton (men’s double), Region 7 for (women’s double), Region 6 for badminton (mixed doubles), Region 7 for table tennis (men’s singles), Region 8 for table tennis (women’s singles), Region 6 for table tennis (mixed doubles), Region 6 for darts (men’s singles), Region 8 for darts (men’s doubles), Region 7 for darts (women’s singles), Region 8 for darts (women’s doubles), and Region 6 for darts (mixed doubles).
Region 6 also dominated the chess tournament after copping first, second, and fourth places. Region 8 placed third.
Region 6-Iloilo was declared champion in e-sports MLBB while Region 8 was first runner-up.
The winners will represent the Visayas Group to the VisMin (VisayasMindanao) elimination this October 2022.
