The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Iloilo reported a 30 percent increase in passenger traffic during this year’s Undas season compared to the previous year.
Public Information Officer Ensign El John Ga said that from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3, they recorded 78,360 inbound and 87,139 outbound passengers across Iloilo.
Iloilo City alone saw 48,357 inbound and 51,665 outbound travelers, while Iloilo Province registered 30,003 inbound and 35,474 outbound passengers.
Nov. 3 recorded the peak volume, with 12,620 inbound and 10,256 outbound travelers, as many commuters returned to the city for work and school.
Ga noted that favorable weather conditions and pre-emptive preparations helped facilitate smooth travel despite the heightened volume.
“Passengers adhered to the necessary guidelines, contributing to the smooth operation of travel during this peak period. We also had no confiscated illegal items, such as alcoholic beverages, during our inspections. Overall, we consider this operation to be 100% successful,” Ga said, noting compliance with all necessary requirements.
To enhance safety and order, the Iloilo Coast Guard intensified Pre-Departure Inspections (PDI) at various ports.
They also set up a “Malasakit Help Desk” staffed by the Pre-Departure Inspection Team, Coast Guard K9 Field Operating Unit, and Coast Guard Medical Service – Western Visayas at key locations, including Arrastre Pier, Parola Wharf, Lapuz Wharf, and the Fastcraft Terminal.
The help desk provided medical assistance and responded to public inquiries, while seaborne patrols monitored coastal areas to ensure beachgoer safety and distributed flyers with safety reminders for beach activities.
