The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) has identified a lack of personnel as a major challenge in ensuring security during the 2025 midterm elections.
Colonel Bayani Razalan, Iloilo police chief, acknowledged the issue, noting that his familiarity with the political landscape in Panay Island and Iloilo province will help in setting priorities.
“Noong barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, nakita ko na ang political structure ng Panay Island and Iloilo province,” Razalan said.
He explained that deploying enough personnel to secure polling centers is the biggest challenge.
“For the elections, two personnel should man each polling center,” he added.
In past elections, provincial police offices in Iloilo, Capiz, and Aklan received personnel augmentation from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
However, the creation of the Negros Island Region (NIR) has limited the availability of ICPO and BCPO personnel for augmentation.
Months before Election Day, IPPO has already begun deploying officers to key areas, including Ajuy town and checkpoints near Dueñas.
Razalan assured that the IPPO will adjust resources and make the most of available personnel.
The IPPO currently has 2,332 personnel, which Razalan said would need to be optimized to cover the election requirements.
Despite challenges, the IPPO remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of voters during the midterm elections.
