In anticipation of large crowds and increased public activity during Semana Santa 2025, both Iloilo City and the Province of Iloilo have activated Blue Alert status to ensure the safety and readiness of emergency responders.
The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (ICDRRMC) placed key personnel — including vice-chairpersons and unit leads — on standby for potential deployment.
All ICDRRMC members have been instructed to monitor developments closely and report incidents to their respective response clusters for swift coordination with concerned offices and agencies.
At the barangay level, Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Committees (BDRRMCs) were directed to activate their emergency operations centers and raise alert levels.
They were also tasked with maintaining 24/7 operations, conducting public safety information campaigns, and implementing localized preparedness measures.
The city government also called on agencies and offices to submit regular situational reports to the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center.
Reports may be sent via email to [email protected] or through Viber at 0919-066-2333 or 0961-653-5111.
In the province, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Operations Center (OpCen) Chief Heman Saraza confirmed that preparations are in full swing, with “all systems go” for Semana Santa.
The OpCen is placing particular focus on vehicular incidents, anticipating heavy travel during the holiday rush.
Passenger traffic is expected to surge in terminals starting Wednesday.
Semana Santa, a sacred period in the Catholic calendar, is marked by processions, masses, and visits to churches and religious sites.
Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and cooperative throughout the week.
Due to the high heat index, residents are advised to stay hydrated during outdoor activities, especially processions; avoid strenuous activity between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.; and wear loose, light-colored clothing, along with sun protection such as umbrellas, hats, fans, or sunscreen.
For those leaving town, safety reminders include unplugging electrical appliances, turning off the main power supply, and securing homes and valuables.
Lit candles should never be left unattended.
Caution is also advised when posting real-time travel updates on social media.
Beachgoers are reminded to avoid restricted swimming zones and keep emergency hotlines accessible.
