Iloilo Residents Urged to Get Free Flu Shots

The Iloilo City government has encouraged residents aged 10 and above to avail themselves of free flu vaccinations to boost immunity and protect against influenza.

The City Health Office (CHO) reported that as of Dec. 11, more than 47,000 individuals have been vaccinated. The campaign, which began on Nov. 24, will continue until supplies are exhausted.

“Despite this achievement, there are many more who we must reach for our city’s collective protection,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.

The CHO recommends the flu vaccine for residents 60 years and older, pregnant women in their fifth month or later, people living with HIV, healthcare and frontline workers, and individuals with chronic conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, lung disease, heart failure, and cancer.

The office emphasized that the vaccine protects against flu symptoms like fever, chills, fatigue, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Older adults aged 65 and above and those with weakened immune systems face a higher risk of severe flu complications.

Mayor Treñas urged companies, educational institutions, and government offices to collaborate with the CHO for mass vaccination drives to increase inoculation coverage.

Residents can access the free flu vaccine at their nearest health center or the designated vaccination site on the second floor of the Iloilo City Hall.

“With our collective cooperation, we can protect our workspaces and learning environments from the flu,” Treñas said. “Prevention is the best way to ensure our health and safety, and getting vaccinated is a vital part of that process.”
