Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas announced on Wednesday a reward for information leading to the identification and capture of the robbers involved in the Iloilo Supermart heist that occurred on August 27.
Initially, Treñas offered a ₱250,000 reward through his Facebook account, stating it would go to anyone who could provide information that leads to the identification and capture of the perpetrators.
Later, Treñas shared that a group of local businessmen had pledged an additional ₱250,000, bringing the total reward to ₱500,000.
Colonel Kim Legada, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), confirmed that Mayor Treñas informed him of the bounty, noting it would significantly aid police investigators in gathering intelligence on the suspects.
“It’s a big help for our police investigators in our efforts to gather intelligence on the suspects and their whereabouts,” Legada said.
Legada advised those with relevant information to coordinate with local police authorities.
He assured that anyone whose information leads to a successful result will receive the reward from the mayor.
In the meantime, Legada stated that the ICPO had intensified its intelligence-gathering operations to track down the culprits who stole ₱1.3 million from an Iloilo Supermart branch in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district.
Initial investigations indicate that an organized group may be involved, potentially using methods similar to those of termite gangs to access the target.
The ICPO is working closely with various units and other agencies to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
Investigators are now analyzing evidence gathered from the crime scene and reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area to gather more information on the suspects and their methods.
“Orders have been issued to increase efforts from our operatives and investigators. We are committed to bringing those responsible for this robbery to justice. Our intelligence efforts are focused on identifying the members of this organized group and preventing further incidents,” Legada emphasized.
The ICPO also appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that may be connected to the robbery.
“We ask the public to be our eyes and ears. If you have any information related to this incident or have noticed any unusual activity near Iloilo Supermart, please let us know. Your assistance is crucial in solving this case and preventing future crimes,” Legada said.
For any concerns or to report suspicious activities, the ICPO advised residents to visit the nearest police station or call the ICPO hotline numbers: 335-0299 and 0908-377-0194.
